NEWCOMERS have been successful in an art group’s award ceremony.

The Rowlands Castle Painting Society’s Silver Cup Awards took place in the Parish Hall, Rowlands Castle.

Terry Devaney, one of the organisers, said: ‘It is a prestigious event and the standard of work the members submitted was exceptionally high this year.

‘There were fifteen different classes to enter, giving members plenty of scope to exercise their many talents using a variety of different mediums in the process.

‘Newcomers to the society did very well, taking well deserved awards for their entries.’

The winner of the Jennings Wood trophy was Pat Hoper with her painting of a little boy holding a bucket and spade at the seaside. The award was presented by Joan Adams, chairwoman of the society.

Other winners were: David Handcock, Barbara Wood, Angela Oakley, Barry Coppin, Derek Ridley, Fran Stewert, Anne Newsom, Tony Spencer, Dennis Oakley, Joyce Quin and Pat Hoper.

Runners up were: David Hughes, Gill Dollery, Belinda Goad, Terry Devaney, John Shervell, John Richards, Jill Merrett, Norman Lawrence and Rosina Shaw.
