AN electrical apprentice from Portsmouth has been honoured with an award.

David Jackson, 29, scooped the regional Adult Trainee of the Year award in the 2012 ECA Edmundson Awards.

He was recognised for the consistently high standard of academic and technical work.

He narrowly missed out on the National Trainee of the Year award.

David said: ‘There aren’t many competitions like this, both within the electrical field and other sectors.

‘To be recognised by Edmundson Electrical and the ECA is an honour.’

David was treated to £500 and a contractor’s tool kit and is keen to encourage more young people into the field.

He added: ‘I’d recommend anyone to get involved in an apprenticeship.

‘It’s the best way to train, and awards like this make it worthwhile.’
