DAREDEVILS are being encouraged to take part in a record-breaking attempt.

The Rowans Hospice is inviting people to join Daring Doris Long in taking part in an annual abseil challenge.

Participants of all ages have the opportunity to be a part of this occasion as Doris, from Hayling Island, attempts to break her own Guinness World Record to be the oldest person to abseil. Last year Doris secured the record at the age of 97 and this year the abseil takes place on May 19 – the day after Doris turns.

The event is at Millgate House, Portsea.

Ali George, from The Rowans, said: ‘There is a huge amount of excitement about the abseil with some participants coming back to do it again and others signing up for the first time.

‘The 200ft abseil gives you an adrenaline rush as you look out over Portsmouth and edge down the side of the tower block, although Doris seems to take it all in her stride.’

To take part in this year’s abseil download the registration form from rowanshospice.co.uk or call Mrs George on (023) 9223 7146.
