POLICE have arrested a man following a blaze at a house.

The fire began in a pile of rubbish which was up against the rear wall of a house in Ramsay Place, Gosport, at 3.30am on Sunday.

It quickly spread to the kitchen through a window and caused major smoke damage.

Thirteen firefighters from Gosport station spent two hours getting the fire under control and damping down.

One person was taken to hospital as a precaution after suffering smoke inhalation.

Gosport fire station manager Steve Ransley said: ‘Our fire investigation team is now carrying out a joint investigation with Hampshire Constabulary to establish the cause and origin of the fire.’
