CHICHESTER Cathedral has taken on its own artist in residence.
This month, visitors will encounter LouLou Morris, a tapestry artist, in the cathedral’s north transept.
In a collaboration with West Dean College, LouLou built her very own loom in the cathedral transept where she will be most days during February, between 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 6pm.
She will be weaving a new tapestry called Rebuilder.
The title of the piece refers to the theme of LouLou’s residency – the collapse of the cathedral spire in 1861 and its subsequent rebuilding.
Visitors can see the tapestry being created on the loom and learn about the design and inspiration behind the piece.
LouLou will also be running workshops for schools and students, and running a family activity during half term on February 20, from 10.30am to 12.30pm.
The piece is expected to be 35in by 55in.
She said ‘Weaving is a slow art in a fast world, that’s the joy of it for me. It is completely engrossing.’
