ONE of the UK's biggest selling authors for teenage girls enthralled youngsters during a visit to Portsmouth High School.

Cathy Hopkins - who boasts sales of more than four million worldwide - spent the day with 120 pupils who quizzed her about her career and learned more about her latest book Million Dollar Mates - Paparazzi Princess.

Melanie Middleton, the school's librarian, said: 'Cathy Hopkins is a really popular author amongst our younger girls, her books make them laugh and they really identify with her characters.

'Many of our pupils are budding authors themselves, so they relished the opportunity to ask her questions about where she gets her inspiration and what life as a successful author is like.'

Colin Telford from The Hayling Island Bookshop, who organised the event, met Cathy at The London Book Fair and says he had been trying to entice her to Portsmouth ever since.

He said: 'We were delighted when Cathy's publishers offered us the chance to host her on one of her January tour dates.'
