A PORTSMOUTH author has been remembered after a blue plaque was unveiled in the city this afternoon.
Percy F Westerman who wrote 174 children’s adventure books and numerous short stories for magazines including Boy’s Own Paper and The Scout, lived at 55 Campbell Road, Southsea, between 1880 and 1900.
Now, the plaque has been unveiled at his former home on the 54th anniversary of his death.
Local Westerman specialist Nigel Gossop, has been raising the profile of the author by giving talks and lectures and organising an annual Westerman Seminar at Portsmouth Grammar School.
Mr Gossop said: ‘It’s really nice to see such a big turnout for Percy, I’m sure he would have been delighted.’
The plaque has been funded through a single donation from a former Southsea resident.
The Lord Mayor, Councillor Frank Jonas invited Portsmouth-born children’s author Michelle Magorian, who wrote the popular children’s book, Goodnight Mister Tom, to unveil the plaque.
