A FORMER pupil has won an award for outstanding achievement in table tennis.

Martin Matuzevicius, who attended Portsmouth College, was given the honour at Hampshire Schools Sports Federation’s Michael Austin Harlick Awards.

He was one of about a dozen pupils from schools across the county who were given awards at the ceremony, held at Ashburton Hall in Winchester.

Hampshire County Council’s executive member for education Councillor Peter Edgar said: ‘The county council aims to provide sporting opportunities for all young people in its schools, and the awards given this year demonstrate what a wide range of sports young people have been inspired to learn.

‘It’s exciting to see the wealth of young sports talent here in Hampshire being nurtured in our schools and colleges and being honoured with these awards.

‘It is a testament to the hard work of the young people and their coaches and supporters that so many of them will be aiming to compete for their country.’
