CARING members of a Women’s Institute unveiled a picnic bench, complete with a brass plaque.

The Titchfield Abbey Women’s Institute was given a grant of £975 from Fareham Borough Council to fund the bench, which is in Barry’s Meadow in Titchfield.

The group contributed £300 towards the project, £260 of which was raised by raffling a patchwork quilt. A further £40 was contributed by the Titchfield Village Trust.

Fareham council’s executive member for leisure and community Cllr Sue Bell said: ‘The bench commemorates the WI’s 100th birthday.

‘It’s a wonderful gift to the community from both the Titchfield Abbey and Titchfield Women’s Institutes and will be enjoyed by many residents.’

The Community Fund is available to projects that benefit the community, to apply call 01329 236100.
