Best Event 2010

Southsea Fest organiser Josie Curtis brought her brother, Beau, along to Monday's ceremony.

Established in 2007, as the Southsea Mini Music Fest, the event was first held to raise funds for musician Beau to record an album, after he was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma.

The one-day charity event sold out and Beau recorded his album and made a full recovery.

Since then the music festival has grown into an annual event that still raises money for the Ellen MacArthur Trust.

After receiving the award for Best Event, Josie said: 'It's nice to be able to give something back to the charity that helped my brother when he really wasn't very well.

'We've been doing it for five years now, with a lot of hard work and a lot of frustration. It's nice to have it recognised.

'Thanks to all the voters, to The News and to the whole Southsea Fest team. It takes a lot of effort from a lot of people.

'Thanks to every single band, DJ, poet, illustrator and everyone that drives us places. Thanks to all hands on deck. A lot of people are volunteers doing this for nothing.

'It was nice to have the award presented by Geoff from the Wedgewood Rooms as he's been so integral to the festival from the start.

'We'll be back next year on September 17 stronger than ever with a fifth birthday bash with a very nautical theme.'

Runner-up was Vintage At Goodwood. This inaugural festival at the Sussex estate was a huge success, creating three days of high spirits despite some damp weather.

Headlined by The Faces with Mick Hucknall, Earth, Wind & Fire and Peter Hook from Joy Division, the festival featured music, fashion, art, food and more – celebrating the best of British cool from the 1940s to the 80s.

This will return from August 12 to 14 next year.
