BEST FRIENDS Diane Cuthbert, left, and Linda Taylor have reached the final of a national bodybuilding competition
THESE Herculean women have made it through to the finals of a national bodybuilding competition.
Best friends Linda Taylor and Diane Cuthbert, took part in the Solent City Bodybuilding Championships, in Thorngate Hall, Gosport, and walked away winners.
Linda, of Anvil Close, Waterlooville, has been bodybuilding for several years and came second in the contest.
She said: ‘I have always been very fit and worked with the airforce.
‘I started training and it just went from there. I love doing a workout and training.
‘After I had my children I wanted to get back into shape and it just took off again from there.’
Linda, 54, who is a part time qualified personal trainer, is no stranger to bodybuilding competitions.
In 1993 she won Miss Hull and Humberside and then went on to win Miss Northern England.
‘I stopped for 17 years until this year,’ added mum-of-three Linda.
‘I have always kept fit as I love training. And when Diane said she wanted someone to give her company in a bodybuilding competition, I decided to join her.’
The pair entered the ladies trained figure contest, where they are marked on the poses they strike.
Winner of the Hampshire contest was cleaner Diane, who is also a qualified personal trainer.
Diane, 43, of Juliet Court, Waterlooville, said: ‘I started training about six years ago.
‘About a year ago someone suggested I should take part in a competition and I decided to give it a go.
‘I have some real close friends that think it’s great. I enjoy the training and it’s a great way to keep fit.’
The two women, who maintain they are still feminine, will now be training for the National Amateur Bodybuilders’ Association’s Novice Britain Finals.
‘I’m looking forward to taking part in the finals,’ added Linda. I do two hours of training a day, five days a week – it’s very intensive.
‘But we don’t use steroids and we’re not huge. Unless we flex you can’t really tell how muscular we are. We certainly aren’t masculine – it’s just something we enjoy doing.’
The NABBA final takes place on November 20, in Dudley, West Midlands.
