Best Professional Productioin: The Music Man
Ten-year-old Portsmouth cousins Declan Murphy-Saunders and Phoebe Saunders, who appeared with Brian Conley in Chichester's Festival Theatre's big summer musical The Music Man, had smiles as wide as the Kings stage after collecting the trophy for Best Professional Production.
Declan was on a night off from performing as Gavroche in Les Miserables in the West End.
Phoebe, who learnt to play the piano for The Music Man, is preparing to return to the Kings as a 'babe' in Cinderella at Christmas.
Beatrice Holland from Chichester, who shared the role of Amaryllis with Phoebe, also went on stage to collect the trophy but Eddie Manning, who alternated with Declan as Winthrop, was unable to attend.
CFT executive director Alan Finch told the children they could keep the trophy for a month each before it went to the theatre.
Alan says: 'The Music Man was the success story of Festival 08. It was a fabulous feelgood show and broke all records to become our most successful musical ever.
'It's fantastic to have received this award for the third year in a row. What makes it special is that it was voted for by readers of The News. It's so important for us to connect with local audiences.'
Runner-up: Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs, Kings Theatre, Southsea.
