Best Restaurant 2009
Judges singled out Petersfield's Annie Jones as the Best Restaurant because it is a neighbourly treasure, a true exponent of seasonal, locally-sourced produce.
Chef-co-owner Steve Ranson's cooking is rather more complex than your average small restaurant – and it works.
Steve, who is self-taught, says: 'Annie's has been a restaurant now for about 20 years and I took it over seven years ago. We've been forever evolving.
'Every week we come up with something new. It's just our life. It's what we do every day. It blew us away to win the award.'
Runner-up was Montparnasse in Southsea.
Now in its tenth year, this small 34-seater restaurant continues its high standards with the appointment of Nikolas Facey as head chef.
Innovative cooking is part of the equation here without overstepping the boundaries between wacky and downright delicious.
The awards were presented by Navid Assar of Mr Pine.
