DEDICATED volunteers rolled up their sleeves to spruce up a dilapidated area of Hayling Island’s Sinah Common.

A team of 11 cut back fast-growing scrub to encourage more wildlife back into the area thanks to a scheme launched by national conservation group BTCV.

The Hayling Island Beach Wardens project seeks budding conservationists in the area to help brighten parts of the common.

Katy Roberts, of BTCV, said: ‘It was a great day – it went really well.

‘It was a little bit cold to start with but everyone got stuck in and it looked much better afterwards.’

The project has spawned the Hayling Coastal Conservation Group of volunteers.
