MOTORCYCLIST David Exley was given a roaring Portsmouth welcome as part of a mammoth challenge across the UK and Ireland.

The dedicated fundraiser stopped off at the city’s Samaritans branch in North End as he covers 6,000 miles on his bike.

It was the 50th branch the 64-year-old has visited out of 201 in the two countries. He was welcomed by Lord Mayor of Portsmouth Cllr Frank Jonas, motorbike enthusiasts and staff members.

Chris Trevellick, Portsmouth branch director, said: ‘He was in good spirits and we are hoping he is raising the profile of the Samaritans for all the right reasons.’

Mr Exley hopes to raise £10,000 through the challenge and raise the profile of the charity’s 24:7 awareness day.
