A MOTORCYCLIST was taken to hospital after he hit a car.

Police closed off the junction of Elm Grove and Victoria Road North, near the One Eyed Dog pub, in Southsea, last night following the accident.

The motorcyclist was injured in the collision with a black BMW.

Paramedics treated the man, believed to be in his 20s, at the scene before taking him to Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham.

His injuries were described as serious.

The motorcyclist had been heading down Victoria Road North, towards Victoria Road South, at around 6.40pm, when it collided with the car.

Acting Sgt Jim Chapman, of Fratton roads policing unit, said: ‘We are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen the motorcycle coming down Victoria Road North prior to the incident.’

Police closed the junction, which was opened after 10pm.

The driver of the car, a 26-year-old man from Fareham, was not hurt.

Witnesses should call Fratton roads policing unit on 101.
