THREE chimney fires in less than eight hours have sparked a safety warning from firefighters.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue service were called to three blazes, including a fire at Bognor.

Watch Commander Jon Etherington, whose crew tackled the Bognor fire, said: ‘Most chimney fires are preventable. They are usually caused by a build-up of coal, soot or wood tar deposits so regular professional sweeping removes those deposits and reduces the risk of a fire.’
