FIREFIGHTERS went to tackle a car on fire in Portsmouth city centre.

The BMW caught fire in Crasswell Street at about 8.35pm last night.

A crew from Southsea put the blaze out, but the engine compartment was destroyed.

Later the same crew went to Clydebank Road, in Buckland, after a fence post was reported to be on fire.

A crew arrived at 11.50pm and put out the fire with a bucket of water. The cause was believed to be accidental.
