A BOAT fire was tackled at the mouth of a river.

Hill Head Coastguard received a mayday call at about 5pm on Saturday on the River Hamble.

A coastguard spokeswoman said: ‘There was a boat on fire at the mouth of the Hamble.

‘It was a small engine fire from an overheated exhaust. They were towed to Hamble marina.’

Firefighters quickly put out the fire.
