The body of a kayaker has been found on a beach on the Isle of Wight.

Police were called to Yaverland Beach, Sandown, at around 7.20pm on Friday after the man, believed to be aged in his mid-30s, was found in the kayak.

His identity is not yet known and a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

The death is currently being treated as unexplained, and Hampshire police are conducting inquiries to establish the circumstances.
