BUSY coastwatch volunteers can go the distance thanks to a new set of long-range kit.

The National Coastwatch Institution Station in Gosport, is the owner of the new Cyclops long-range spotting optics.

It comes as volunteers put out an appeal to replace defective and ageing kit.

Watching over the busy entrance of Portsmouth Harbour, the equipment is needed by the volunteers on a daily basis.

Eastleigh-based corporate buildings maintenance and logistical support firm EMCOR UK donated £500.

NCI volunteer Gareth Owen works at the firm and had appealed to his boss. BBC Radio Solent donated £400.
