PLANS for a community allotment are fading after a planning application for a chosen site was refused.

But the Bosham Allotment Group is still hoping to continue in its quest, and is appealing to any landowners in the area able to help to get in touch.

The group hoped an application to convert a disused field, just north of Bosham train station, would be accepted by Chichester District Council.

But a high number of objections from nearby residents, and fears about road safety, scuppered the plan.

There is a demand for allotment space with 30 on a list, for what would have been 25 spaces at the site east of Ratham Lane.

Karen Ongley-Snook is head of BAG, which has been fighting the cause for a community gardening space.

‘We could appeal, but I don’t see the point because we have got so much opposition,’ she said. ‘I’m really sad this may be dead in the water. If there is more land available we would be very interested.’

If you are able to help, call Mrs Ongley-Snook on 07989 074641.
