A FAREHAM youth project is hoping to leave a lasting legacy in the county’s archives.
The Breakout Youth Project is a charity which supports young people aged 11 to 21 who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual, transgender or unsure of their gender or sexual identity.
The group have teamed up with two local creative businesses Locks Heath-based Magic Parsnips and Emsworth-based Millstream Productions who will give them guidance on how to create videos documenting LGBT history.
Janet Aughey from Magic Parsnips said: ‘The highlight is that this group’s film will go into the Hampshire and Wessex archives. Currently there are no records of LGBT history and the chosen film will be the first.’
Emily Palmer, 19, said: ‘We’ve been working on the projects for four weeks. It’s good because we come here and come here and get advice.’
The project is regularly visited by Lesbian and Gay Liason Officer PCSO Marie Harding, who offers her support. She said: ‘I think it’s brilliant. It’s a really worthwhile charity.’
Breakout volunteer Rich Whittenstall said: ‘It’s about time that LGBT had its own voice in the archives and it’s great for the group to see what’s gone on before them.’
