PARISH councillor Doug Jones has been appointed as a new member for South Downs National Park Authority.

Mr Jones first became a parish councillor in Buriton, East Hampshire, in 1999 and was selected to become an authority member in elections organised by the Hampshire Association of Local Councils. He will join the 26 other members who are responsible for governing the National Park.

Mr Jones said: ‘I feel honoured to join the National Park Authority at this important time and I hope that my range of knowledge and experience will be helpful.’

He replaces Minette Palmer who has recently stepped down from the role.

South Downs National Park chairwoman Margaret Paren said: ‘Doug has been an energetic member of the community in Buriton for many years and a long-standing supporter of the national park. He will bring many strengths to the authority.’
