STRONG opposition has been expressed about the building of 221 homes on fields near the A3.
Developers have applied to East Hampshire District Council to build a new estate at Down Farm, south of Chalton Lane, Clanfield.
The development would also include a bowling green, sports pitches and allotments.
Several comments have been received by the council from residents.
One resident said: ‘With the amount of housing Clanfield has suffered in recent years both our doctors and schools are brimming with residents and long waits in the doctors – let alone being able to get an appointment.’
Another said: ‘This proposed site would take development up to the South Downs National Park boundary on Chalton Lane to the north and more importantly dramatically intrude into the fine open landscape which characterises this area. It would devalue the setting of Windmill Hill, a prominent local landscape feature.’
A decision will be made later in the year.
