Apprenticeship open day is hailed a success

A BUSINESS centre in Gosport has hosted an open day for people to find out more about apprenticeships.

Basepoint’s Gosport Business Centre jointly hosted the day with Portsmouth training agency PETA.

Jan May, business development manager and Chris Arkell, a field trainer and assessor, both from PETA, were there all day dealing with a constant stream of young people and local companies who wanted to find out how they could benefit from being – or employing – an apprentice.

With more than 50 enquiries, the day was hailed a great success.

Chris Arkell said: ‘The turnout was fantastic, I am so glad we could help so many young would-be apprentices.’

Andrew Weston, the centre manager of Gosport Business Centre, added: ‘There are three companies based here who are now looking at the opportunity of taking on an apprentice after receiving advice from PETA which is great news for all concerned.

‘This just shows that people see the value of what an apprenticeship can give to both the individual and the business.’
