A SUPERMARKET chain has announced that it is hoping to run a new convenience store.
Concerns had been raised over plans to build a new store on land next to the Wicor Mill pub in White Hart Lane, Portchester.
As reported in The News, locals had been worried that it would make it the fourth convenience store to open in the same road.
Landowners Punch Partnerships had refused to say if anyone was lined up for the prospective shop,
Kevin Birch, acquisitions manager for The Southern Co-operative, said: ‘Working with Punch Taverns, we are seeking to relocate The Southern Co-operative’s existing store to this new site on White Hart Lane in Portchester, which is alongside the Wicor Mill pub.’
‘The intention is to provide an improved store and Post Office with car parking to offer a better service to our customers.
‘This will be subject to planning permission.
‘We are keen to allay residents’ fears and will be considering other uses for the existing store, assuming the relocation goes ahead – converting this back to residential accommodation is a strong possibility.’
