College helps tackle issue of youth unemployment
A PORTSMOUTH college has taken part in a national conference focusing on youth unemployment.
It was the sixth annual national NEET conference – NEET stands for Not in Employment, Education, or Training and is a term used to describe young people struggling to find work.
Simon Paine, head of the centre for entrepreneurship at Highbury College, ran a workshop to policy makers and researchers at the event in Birmingham.
He said: ‘I’ve met many young people who aren’t in work or education and they describe the experience like living in a black hole they can’t escape from.
‘We need to use our guile, creativity and collective resources to tackle this problem for our society.’
