Delighted MP fought hard for football club

Conservative MP for Portsmouth North, Penny Mordaunt

Conservative MP for Portsmouth North, Penny Mordaunt

PENNY Mordaunt joined in the fight for Pompey by directly asking for the prime minister’s help with the taxman.

The Portsmouth North MP urged David Cameron to intervene with Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs to prevent it winding up the club over its debts.

And the evening before yesterday’s hearing, it emerged that Ms Mordaunt had written to HMRC’s head of debt recovery, Des Dolan, to urge him to support the administration application and to ask that an alternative to UHY Hacker Young be appointed to oversee the process.

She was jubilant following yesterday’s judgement that PKF will be the new administrators.

She said: ‘A lot of people will be disappointed in this [the administration] but it is the only way forward and by going into administration other opportunities will come up for investors, who would have been reluctant to buy the club with a wining-up order hanging over it.

‘Yes it’s disappointing to be here again, but don’t lose heart.

‘In my conversations with HMRC I’ve always asked them to look at our club and its situation and not bring into it the other sins of football.

‘There’s a lot of bad practice in football and a lot of tax that hasn’t been paid, but this is about our club.

‘HMRC have a job to get its tax and I respect that but it will help them do that if the club is viable in the Championship and can find new owners.’

Mordaunt's family moved to Portsmouth in 1975, when she was aged two. She was educated at Oaklands RC Comprehensive School, Waterlooville..Yes thats right halfwit, no connection with Portsmouth at all.............Halfwit by name halfwit by nature.

The idea that Mordaunt has any affinity or feeling for the club is laughable - in fact the idea that she has any affinity for Portsmouth is equally laughable. She is just the latest to feed off the club in order to further her own interests, in the same way that Portsmouth, a city she has no links to, has provided her with a route to parliament. Her only previous utterences on 'sport' was her support for hunting! Woman of the people? Pull the other one.

Thank you Penny, I agree with Whizz & Steve, she has fought for her constituency & done a great job. She didn't just make comments & sound off about how sad it would be if our club folded, she actually did something. I cant believe some of the small minded people on here who moan that she has done this for her own political benefit. She has done what she should do, fought for her constituents & she's done it b....y well & succeeded.

wotPompey - if this was a success by Pompey and their legal team surely AA would now be our administrator?

I really do find the c omments with inuendo most unnecessary. PM has doine her best for us and that best was good enough to support bthye many claims that AA should not be appointed. She has made no claim that she did this on her own. Her constituents interests and those of many others have been well looked after. I truly do not believe this is about self agrandisement. I would like to see her invited to the Leeds game by the directors and administrators so that the fans can show their apprceiation.

I have just written to Penny and asked her that if anything untoward is uncovered by the new administration team that a call be made for a full enquiry.

Publicity stunt or not she actually did something!........All the others paid lip service but didn't do diddly squat..................Power to her for following through on her claims!......Something that Mr Jackson in particular should learn from!

Oi Muppets, Mordaunt just pulled of a self serving political stunt for a bit of publicity- did Cameron stop HMRC - NO! did Mordaunt get HMRC to stop - NO! HMRC were still going to court as of yesterday and Lampitt and Pompeys legal advisers stopped em. ..... I would if I was drunk
