Demolition job

CRASH The homes in Eastern Road, Milton, are knocked down

CRASH The homes in Eastern Road, Milton, are knocked down

DEMOLITION work has started at a site which will see new council-owned homes built.

An unused block of maisonettes in Eastern Road, Portsmouth, is being replaced with four up-to-date three-bedroom maisonettes.

As part of the £1.2m project residents of nearby blocks will be given a new communal area. Parking spaces will be moved to the back of the blocks and new flower beds, gardens and gates will be put in. The front of the homes will get new railing.

The cash has come from housing funds which are separate to the council’s main budget.

Councillor Steven Wylie said: ‘It’s great news that we’re once again building family homes for local people. Although this a reasonably small development, the homes will be a brilliant boost for the families who eventually move in.’
