Deputy PM inspects stadium’s new hotel

THE deputy prime minister has visited the home of Hampshire cricket to inspect the site of a new hotel there.

Hampshire Cricket chairman Rod Bransgrove and chief executive David Mann were on hand at the Ageas Bowl to show Nick Clegg around, talking him through the 175-bedroom, four-star Hilton complex at the Northern End of the ground.

Mr Clegg said: ‘This is a great venue and one the people of Eastleigh and the surrounding area should be proud of.

‘Once it is finished, this will create jobs and bring money into the local area.

‘It’s an example of what can be achieved when local business works together with local government and I look forward to seeing it completed.’

The scheme, once completed, is estimated to be worth £55m a year to the local economy and create up to 500 jobs.

Mr Bransgrove said: ‘It has been a real privilege to host Nick’s visit to the site.’

The development is being funded by Eastleigh Borough Council.
