Family living in dirty flat plead for help

A SINGLE MUM has spoken of her frustration about living in a dirty flat with her four-year-old daughter.

Gemma Browning, 23, and her daughter Ellie Womack have had problems at their home in South Street, Havant, ever since Havant Borough Council moved them in there two years ago.

Storage heaters don’t work properly and there are gaps in the windows which means Ellie wakes up during the night because it‘s cold.

Water leaks from the ceiling above the front room and the kitchen and spots of mould have appeared on the walls of both rooms.

Miss Browning said: ‘I’m petrified that my daughter is going to touch the walls and get ill.

‘I’m desperate to move so she can have a better quality of life.

‘It’s terrible because at the moment I can’t do anything to help her. I tried wiping away the mould but it keeps coming back.’

Iris Gunton, housing team leader for the council, said: ‘We are working with the tenant of the property to find alternative accommodation in the private sector, and in the meantime we are working with the landlord to complete maintenance on the property.’
