Fans’ relief at decision of the judge

THERE was a sigh of relief yesterday as the news was announced that Pompey would be in administration and PKF would be the new administrators.

Colin Farmery, who runs fansonline.net, said the move was ‘as important an outcome as any goal in Pompey’s history’.

He added: ‘That we are going to be docked 10 points is very disappointing, but it’s not a case of definite relegation like last time.’

And the Pompey Supporters Trust said: ‘It was clear from what happened in court that the creditors, apart from Balram Chainrai, all opposed the appointment of UHY, with the judge saying he thought Mr Andronikou was too close to one particular creditor.

‘It is to be hoped that this appointment brings fresh impetus to the sale of PFC and also that a realistic deal can be done.’

Pompey fans spoke with one voice on internet site Twitter in welcoming the move to appoint Trevor Birch and PKF.

Peter Stokes said: ‘Best news we could have hoped for in a terrible situation.’

Georgia Samphire added: ‘Hopefully it will be good and we can look for a new owner and put the past behind us.’

Ashley Elmes said: ‘Outstanding news. A fresh start with a new administrator, hopefully some better times ahead for these magnificent fans.’

Meanwhile, Sir Alan Sugar tweeted: ‘Portsmouth FC goes bust 2nd time.

‘Bet they will be playing on Sat, business as usual. Strange insolvency laws for football. JOKE!’

Alan Sugar the "Spiv" from London in the words of the late great Brian Clough. I'm sure he'd have something to say about the state of football at the moment.
