AN MP took time out from his parliamentary duties to open a supermarket.

The new Waitrose opened yesterday in Locks Heath at 8am and a crowd gathered to watch the unveiling.

MP for Fareham Mark Hoban announced the store open.

Mr Hoban said: ‘It is a big boost for the area and it will make a huge difference to the Locks Heath Shopping Village.’

Branch manager Jo Williamson said: ‘We’d like to thank everyone who has shown their support and given us a warm welcome.

‘We’re committed to Locks Heath and look forward to playing our part in attracting even more shoppers to the area.’

Waitrose took over the building from the Co-op and the nearby petrol station. The new supermarket created 75 new jobs, which saw more than 1,000 applications.
