Funding bid received for employee training

LEAN business specialists Fedden USP in Gosport has been awarded European Social Funding to deliver Six Sigma workshops to SMEs in the Solent area.

The funding will be available until July 2015 and enables courses to be run that are heavily subsidised for eligible companies.

Six Sigma seeks to improve the quality of process outputs by identifying and removing the causes of errors and minimising variability in manufacturing and business processes.

With the funding available, subsidised courses can be organised for employers provided the company is an SME with fewer than 250 employees, the candidate is aged over 19 and has no prior attainment at NVQ Level 2.

Neil Fedden, principal consultant at Fedden USP, said: ‘The Six Sigma methodology is the ideal tool to review your systems and procedures to identify and eliminate defects that have worked their way into the business.

‘It can deliver real and sustainable business benefits in terms of process capability and defect reduction and can result in business savings of £30,000 a year.’

The course can be run in-company providing there is a minimum of 10 candidates.

Trainees will receive three mentoring visits by a Six Sigma consultant.

For companies who cannot commit to these numbers, Fedden USP will be holding the first of a series of open courses in Fareham on October 2, 9 and 16.
