SOUTHERN Electric is testing state-of-the-art smart meters in Portsmouth.
Thirty homes have been fitted with the new equipment, which includes a monitor so energy consumption can be checked in real time.
The company wants to install nine million of them in the UK by 2019. Tony House, of Southern Electric, said: ‘Smart meters are obviously far more advanced than the traditional, old-fashioned meters currently in people’s homes.’
