New technology on order

THE National Oceanography Centre in Southampton has confirmed the order of a C-Enduro from ASV Ltd in Portchester.

The announcement was made at the Long Endurance Marine Unmanned Surface Vehicle Showcase this month.

The centre will use the unmanned surface vehicle for oceanographic data collection.

The purchase comes as science minister and Havant MP David Willetts announced robotics and autonomous systems as one of the ‘eight great technologies’ to be supported by the government.

Designed to be at sea for up to 90 days, C-Enduro is powered by wind power, solar power and a lightweight diesel generator.

Formed in 1998, ASV provides rugged, reliable and effective unmanned marine systems using the latest advances in autonomous technology.
