Portsmouth bank opens its doors to high street shoppers

A BANK has been helping small businesses make ends meet by allowing its customers to do their Christmas shopping in the branch.

Barclays in Commercial Road, Portsmouth, also used the run-up to Christmas to raise money for the Missing People, Home for Christmas charity.

A selection of small businesses which use the bank were selling their wares during Christmas week.

Local charity The Beneficial Foundation spent time in the banking hall selling products to help raise money.

The company also organised a children’s Christmas colouring competition. Many schools took part, including Arundel Court Primary, Charles Dickens Primary, Flying Bull Primary and St John’s Cathedral Catholic Primary School.

Branch manager Julie Milne said: ‘We want to make the banking experience a bit different for customers this year so we have arranged visits by many of our business customers as well as fundraising for charity. Customers and staff raised £100 for charity, which was doubled by the bank.
