Pounds raised for hounds

IT’S not often that a dog is the main attraction at a swanky charity do.

But when staff at shipping handling firm Southern Maritime Services organised a ball at the Hilton in Farlington, that’s just what happened.

It was held in aid of Hounds for Heroes, and raised a staggering £2,590 on the night.

The firm’s Ben Currier said: ‘The event was organised by general manager Alexandra Fernandez, and she had the support of the managing director, Paul Kempton.

‘We were grateful to have one of the charity’s trustees to attend.

‘John Wheeley MBE attended with his black labrador, Cluny, who represented the charity.’

Hounds for Heroes trains dogs to help injured service men and women returning from war zones.

The firm has said the event was such a success that it will be organising a similar ball to be held in the summer.
