Roadworks cause queue on Hayling Island

MOTORISTS had to endure more traffic delays getting off of Hayling Island due to roadworks.

There were long queues on Havant Road, stretching back to Mill Rythe, as work to extend the Hayling Billy leisure trail began, close to The Ship Inn, next to Hayling bridge.

The queues were between 10am and midday until the temporary traffic lights put in place were switched off and traffic began to flow freely again.

Roadworks in the area have been causing congestion for weeks and there have been calls for Hampshire County Council to employ a more ‘joined up’ approach.

Although the work to lay sensors outside the Esso garage is now complete, the gas works are ongoing.
