OLD reptile enclosures have been given a new lease of life thanks to an innovative partnership between a zoo, a recycling company and a workplace solutions firm.
Portsmouth-based Recycling Assets Company, also known as TRACOuk, has transformed disused reptile houses called vivariums from Marwell Zoo into new homes for scaly pets – for sale to the public.
TRACOuk founder Jason Bentley said the zoo contacted him to ask if seven of their old enclosures could be recycled in any way.
Mr Bentley said his firm was able to transform the old vivariums intro new units with the help of Aldershot workplace solutions firm Johnson Controls.
Mr Bentley said: ‘This initiative highlights social enterprise at its best.
‘To be able to connect large corporate with worthy charity is one of the key reasons why our social enterprise has a big future.’
The refurbished animal homes cost between £20 and £50 and are for sale from TRACOuk’s website at bentleyrecyclingsolutions.com. For more information, call company on (023) 9296 0640.
