SIGNIFICANT development opportunities will be the focus for a group promoting the Solent region.
Business South is co-ordinating the consortium, supported by the public sector and the Solent Local Enterprise Partnership.
The aim is to raise the profile of the region at the forthcoming MIPIM UK event in London.
MIPIM UK is a new ‘spin-off’ of the annual property event in Cannes in the south of France, which attracts thousands of delegates from across the world every March.
The consortium will promote the development opportunities the region can offer for investors, such as the Solent Enterprise Zone at Daedalus and Whitehill Bordon, and major commercial developments such as 1000 Lakeside in Portsmouth.
Confirmed partners so far include Bouygues, Hammerson, Capita, Roughtons, Hughes Ellard, Aecom, Crest Nicholson and Solent LEP, with local authority support from Hampshire County, Southampton City and Portsmouth City councils.
Sally Lynskey, chief executive officer of Business South, said: ‘As well as location, another significant importance for developers is the ongoing investment planned in major infrastructure to ensure that the Southampton and Portsmouth region remains competitive and supports a productive economy and the development of a skilled workforce.’
Allan Gordon, construction director at Bouygues, said: ‘MIPIM UK is an opportunity for the Solent region to sell itself to developers and funders from not only the UK but around the world.
‘Bouygues UK with its office based in Portsmouth is committed to the region and already carries out both development and construction across the south, supported by one of the worlds largest privately-owned engineering businesses.’
The show offers the opportunity to showcase the competitive business environment the region can offer.
