South east Hampshire Blockbuster stores avoid the administrator’s axe

BLOCKBUSTER stores in the Portsmouth area are not currently earmarked for closure, according to the film chain’s administrators.

A spokesman for Deloitte said the stores in North End, Cosham, Southsea, Cowplain, Fareham, Gosport and Chichester are not currently on the list of 160 which will close.

Around 4,500 staff are employed by Blockbuster nationwide, in 528 stores.

Lee Manning, one of the administrators, said store closures were ‘an inevitable consequence’ of restructuring the company, which called in adminstrator Deloitte last week.

He added: ‘We would like to thank the company’s employees for their support and professionalism during this difficult time.

‘We are also grateful to the customers for their continued support.’

Meanwhile, Deloitte has announced that gift vouchers will be honoured in HMV stores in the UK.

The firm is acting as administrator for the music and film retailer, and had previously said vouchers would not be accepted.

The firm also said yesterday that money raised through the sale of charity singles would be paid as soon as possible.
