The wheel thing...

Hundreds of kids got a taste of the world of work at an enormous jobs fair this week.

Around 1,100 school children and exhibitors took over Fratton Park on Thursday afternoon for the Skills and Careers Festival, run by the Education Business Partnership.

The children, mostly around 13 to 15, came to view stalls from some of the area's biggest employers.

And the fair also had a number of hands-on activities.

Dan Powell, 32, an Entry to Employment assessor with charity PETA, in Arundel Street, Landport, put around 100 children through their paces with the Wheel Change Challenge.

'The average time to change it was about two-and-a-half minutes,' he said.

'Some were coming back two or three times to try and beat their time.

'They were asking about motor vehicles and we were pointing them in the direction of the skills you need to be a mechanic.'
