Top of the class for construction firm

A local construction company has been named best school contractor at a special awards ceremony.

Morgan Ashurst won the award at the British Council for School Environments (BCSE) Industry Awards.

The Fareham-based company, with offices at Solent Business Park, picked up the award at a ceremony at the Emirates Stadium in London on Wednesday night.

Judges commended the firm for building strong relationships with clients and for always putting their customers' needs first.

Mark Dyer, Morgan Ashurst area director, said: 'We're absolutely thrilled to have won this award.

'As one of the UK's biggest providers of schools, our strategy for winning and retaining business in the current economic climate is to try to be the best at what we do.

'That means not just providing our customers with a high-quality product but giving them an exceptional customer service too.

'We work in a number of schools.

'The judges commented saying we are building up good relationships with the clients. I feel relationships with the schools are important. Obviously while we are working we try and work with minimal disruption to the children's education.

'Our staff work with the sixth forms and with people interested in going into the construction industry.

'We find it benefits us too because it helps use realise what the school needs and requires.

'We want to feel part of the school community.

'We are ecstatic to win any award. It's recognition for all the hard work throughout Morgan Ashurst. It's a business so it's what we strive for. It's a real lift for everybody, especially with the current economic climate.'

Morgan Ashurst is working on a new 5.9 million project to build a new skills centre for Hampshire County Council at Hamble College.

The BCSE is a charity and membership organisation made up of schools, local authorities, construction companies, architects, and all those involved in designing excellent learning environments.
