Traders fail in bid to stop food trailer

PROPOSALS for a mobile catering trailer in the heart of Leigh Park were approved by councillors – despite opposition from traders.

Leigh Park Traders’ Association objected to an application for a mobile takeaway in Park Parade.

The application was discussed by Havant Borough Council’s licensing committee.

The association’s statement said: ‘The Leigh Park Traders’ Committee feel that the proposed van would not bring any additional footfall to the precinct and it would work in conflict to existing businesses.’

The traders also feared that it would create more rubbish in the area.

A council report states a mobile trailer was selling takeaway food between 2005 and 2012.

The report added: ‘Although concern was raised over how electricity would be supplied to the mobile catering trailer the majority of the committee considered that subject to this matter being resolved prior to any licence being issued the application be permitted.’
