PUPILS from a Fareham primary school teamed up with a shopping centre to plant 60 trees.

Wicor Primary School, Fareham in Bloom and Fareham Shopping Centre planted the trees to commemorate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee year.

The shopping mall ran a campaign this summer so that people could nominate places that they would like to see the trees planted.

The lucky recipients included residents, schools, community groups and businesses across the town.

Wicor Primary School in Portchester was one of the schools involved.

It received a variety of Field Maple trees.

Northern Infants and Northern Junior in Portchester, Henry Cort Community College, St Judes Catholic Primary School and Uplands Primary School, Fareham, and Westhill Park Pre-Prep, Titchfield, will also receive trees.

Others will be planted at Park Lane Recreation Ground, Fareham.

Mike Taylor, operations manager at Fareham Shopping Centre, said: ‘Every year we support the Fareham in Bloom campaign with our children’s competition.

‘This year we wanted to go that little bit further and do something to mark the Diamond Jubilee year, something that the wider community could get involved in.’
