CARPET Barn’s Darren Ironside was impressed by our new app – so he got his company to sponsor it.
The furniture specialist, which opened a new store in Titchfield in April, has backed The News football and news apps, which give readers access to the latest breaking news at their fingertips.
Darren, who is a partner of the Carpet Barn chain, which has four branches across the south, said: ‘We were quick to download The News iPad app as soon as it was made available.
‘We find it is stylish, slick, easy to use and gives readers the latest news in the palm of their hands and that’s why we decided to sponsor it.
‘iPads and apps are the way everyone is going at the moment and they make it easy for people to find out what they want, when they want.
‘We hope the partnership between Carpet Barn and The News will be a success in the long run.’
The News is offering iPad users a 30-day free trial of the app through the Apple App store.
It allows users to read all the pages from that day’s newspaper in their traditional format on the iPad screen, as well as showing you all the latest breaking stories.
The app includes editors’ picks of the day plus sections for news, Pompey, sport, business, lifestyle and nostalgia.
Using the app is simple. Users can scroll to browse content across all channels in the digital section before clicking into articles and swiping to read more.
In the paper section, users can see and access every page of the latest edition.
There is a download option for users to store pages on your device for later reading. It also includes an archive feature.
Getting a free trial couldn’t be easier. Just go to the App Store on your iPad and search for The News Portsmouth.
Then click the install button.
You’ll get 30 days for free and after that you’ll be able to buy a subscription for £5.99 a month from within the app.
By default the subscription will renew automatically but there is an option to turn this off. At the moment our app is only available for the iPad but we are looking at extending the service to other devices.
