Weather causes delays on Solent crossings

HOVERCRAFT passengers could see delays to travel today as a result of strong winds.

People are being advised to leave extra time for their journeys and to check ahead for any delays.

A spokesman for Hovertravel said: ‘Some passengers may experience delays today due to strong winds in the Solent.

‘Please allow extra time to travel.’

Brittany Ferries has had to delay a crossing from Portsmouth to Bilbao because of the poor weather.

People travelling on the 5pm crossing today will instead travel at the same time tomorrow.

Today is also the first day of speed changes to the M275 as contractors begin work on the new Tipner interchange.

A 50mph limit will be set for drivers entering the city until just north of the M275 Tipner Lake Bridge, where it will become 40mph.

Traffic leaving the city will follow a 40mph zone before speeding up north of the bridge.

Speed limits return to normal south of the Rudmore roundabout.

The new speed limits are being enforced by average speed cameras.
