Buy a bobble to warm old hearts

ELDERLY people will be kept warm during the winter thanks to a fundraising event.

The Age UK shops in Gosport and Fareham are raising money by selling fluffy bobble hats as part of Bobble Day on Friday, February 10.

It comes as part of the charity’s ‘Spread the Warmth’ campaign, which was set up after reports of over 200 deaths in elderly people per year through cold weather.

People can buy a colourful bobble for just £1, raising awareness of the charity and providing funds to keep elderly people warm.

Paul Farthing, fundraising director at Age UK, said: ‘Bobble Day is definitely a chance to have fun.

‘But there is a serious issue at its heart; 200 older people die needlessly every day in winter due to the cold.

‘While Christmas is over and thoughts turn to the spring ahead, February is often one of the coldest months of the year.’
